Echalico, Firmeza top 100K race

MICHAEL John Echalico and Olive Firmeza emerged champions in the just-concluded Kadayawan 100k Ultramarathon that finished Sunday at the Brokenshire College.

Echalico of People's Park Runners Club of Davao (PPRCD), who recently won the 21k event of the SM to SM Color Fun Run, checked in at eight hours and 33:49 to take home P10,000 cash prize. Jonathan Pido of Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC) clocked 10:33:58 to pocket the runner-up prize of P7,000 while Lloyd Malinao of PPRCD (11:56:19) finished third and took home P5,000.

Firmeza, of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, registered 12:34:40 to win the P6,000 purse over Gigi Gorre (14:06:49) and Jessa Bolanio (14:10:07) who placed second and third, respectively. Gorre had P5,000 and Bolanio with P4,000.


In the 100k relay event, PRC (8:25:12) stamped rivals Team Pelite (14:52:52), Team Badboyz (15:11:33) and Team Elite (15:50:50).

Meanwhile, Sonny Wagdos and Mona Liza Ambasa captured the 10K crowns of the Kadayawan Color Run also held at the same venue.

University of Mindanao's Wagdos made it fourth in a row having also topped his class in the Pinnacle, Jollibee, and Run for the Future fun run events. He timed 31:26 to rule the men's event at the expense of Gilbert Maluto (33:28) and Agustin Ychon (36:32). The top three finishers got P2,500, P1,500, P1,000.

Ambasa, who also won the Pinnacle and Run for the Future race, recorded 43:39 beating Mae Barrit (44:16) and Madelyn Carter (49:17).

Elmer Bartolo and Diana Mae Memoracion, meanwhile, topped the 5k men's and women's event to pocket the cash prize P1,500 each.

Bartolo (23:23) raced past Michael Barosa (23:52) and Jessmar Lopez (26:19) in the men's division while Memoracion (28:27) bested Rosenelyn Depillo (42:43) and Dymie Rose Jaro (42:45) in the distaff side.

Arlan Arbois (12:45) and Jolly Mae Gabaisen (16:04) copped the boys and girls 3K titles.

The two events were organized by Manila-based Dabawenyo Roel Ano of Race Logic Events Management in cooperation with PPRCD.
