Tapao tops Lumba Bisiklita

DAVAO City's pride Danny Tapao emerged as champion in the masters category in the recently-concluded 29th Kadayawan 2014 sa Dabaw Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Lumba Bisiklita held Saturday in an out-and-back course in Barangay Magtuod.

Tapao, who previously clinched the 30-above category in last May's Mumho Club Race, pocketed P2,000, besting fellow Davao City rivals Joel Rojo and Toi Santero. Rojo and Santero received P1,500 and P1,000 who settled for the first and second runner-up honors.

In the open-elite category, Junrey Navarra from General Santos City clinched the title after outspeeding Reymart Legasan of Duterte Livestrong Builders and Riemon Lapasa of Butuan City who placed first and second, respectively. All three finishers received P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000 each.


Open-elite division top three finishers Navarra, Legasan, and Lapasa will represent Mindanao in the upcoming LBC Ronda Pilipinas.

Meanwhile, April John Maniyog of Kapalong and James Paulo Perfas captured titles in the 23-under and 18-under categories, respectively.

Maniyog, for his part, ousted Duterte Livestrong Builders biker Eric Dhave Apinar and Melviv Awit of Davao City to take home the cash prize of P2,000 while Apinar and Awit received P1,500 and P1,000 each.

Polomolok City's bet, on the other hand, finished big in the race to conquer the 18-under division despite the strong efforts of Davao's bet Nikko Tapao and Jason Caseres of Duterte Livestrong Builders who then occupied the next two places. The latter received P2,000, P1,500, and P1,000, respectively.

Philcycling deputy secretary-general for Mindanao Salvador "Jun" Paholio, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, said the overall outcome of the event was a success.

"Nagapasalamat kaayo ko ug dako sa mga taga sports office kay nahatag dayon ang premyo sa mga winners (I'm really thankful for the immediate issuance of the prizes alloted for the winners courtesy of the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO)," Paholio said.

Paholio said,"I'm also thanful to Mayor Duterte's executive assistant Christopher Bong Go for providing medical assistance with the presence of nurses and doctors for the bikers for their medical requirements which resulted to more participants."

Paholio, on the other hand, was saddened by the defeat of riders Veteran riders Dexter Nonato, Eric Dhave Apinar, Mark Echavez, Reymart Legasan, Jayson Caseres, Roderick Donill, Arnold Regodon, Jumar Bacharpa, and Brylle Cocjin.

The Lumba Bisikleta was sponsored by the city government of Davao, Congressmen Sid Ungab, Emperador Light, Jaltan Food Centrum, Davao Livestrong Builders Corporation, AG Global, and Racing Edge.
