VISITING team Cor Jesu College of Digos registered wins in the men's and women's division after beating their respective opponents in the resumption of the Philippine Volleyball Federation-sanctioned 1st Kadayawan Abreeza Open Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at the Abreeza Mall Open Parking Lot.

In the women's division, CJC-Digos toppled San Pedro College (SPC), 25-15, 25-17. CJC-Digos capitalized on the slow movement on the defense of SPC defenders as they barreled in successive points to spark an early 15-7 lead in the first set.

Sensing the a rally, SPC coach Abet Bernan forced to call a timeout and told her players during the team huddle,"Bawi tayo guys and kelangan natin maexecute ng maayos ang ating mga plays para makagawa ng puntos ang ating spikers (We need to improve our play especially in executing our setup plays in order to involve our spikers in the game)."

SPC players couldn't get their plays running as the CJC-Digos volleybelles dictated the tempo of the game to stun the defense of SPC and secure the first set.

In the second set, SPC girls started on the wrong end as CJC took advantage of the errors and miscues to put the game away early with the big lead difference, 12-3.

CJC-Digos took care of the height mismatch as they converted powerful wallops into successive points to remain composed for a lopsided second set win.

On the other hand, CJC-Digos men's team, for its part, toppled SPC men's team. 25-14, 25-20.

It was a back and forth affair as both teams exchange service aces one after another before CJC-Digos seized a five point lead, 14-9.

With the powerful spikes unleashed, CJC-Digos spikers surprised the defense of SPC leading to a dominating first set win.

As SPC team's woes continued in the second set, CJC-Digos went back to its high-arching attacks, propelling them to a second set win.

Games were still being played as of press time Sunday. (KRP)
