THE 29th Kadayawan 2014 sa Dabaw Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Lumba Bisiklita will unreel on Saturday in Barangay Magtuod.

Philcycling deputy secretary-general for Mindanao Salvador "Jun" Paholio, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao at his office, said the race will cover a total distance of 12 kilometers.

"It is our own way of providing an avenue for our riders to compete and share their expertise in biking," Paholio said in vernacular.


The Lumba Bisikleta features open elite, 23-under, Junior (18-under), Veterans (31-39 yrs. old), and Masters (40-49yrsold) categories.

Cash prizes await top three finishers in each category. Champion in the open-elite category will take home P3,000 and a medal while the next two finishers will pocket P2,000 and P1,000.

Prizes of P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000 will be awarded to the first three placers of the rest of the other categories.

No registration fee is required.

Paholio, meanwhile, bared that Kadayajuan Road bike Challenge will also unfurl on Sunday in an out-and-back course in Barangay Maa.

"This event will test the competitive spirit of our bikers and will serve as a pre-qualifying race for Mindanao riders for the upcoming LBC Ronda Pilipinas," Paholio said.

The 106-kilometer bikefest will have a team event, open elite, and executive categories.

Paholio said, "Two cycling teams from the Duterte-Livestrong Builders will also join the race."

Veteran riders Dexter Nonato, Eric Dhave Apinar, Mark Echavez, Reymart Legasan, Jayson Caseres, Roderick Donill, Arnold Regodon, Jumar Bacharpa, and Brylle Cocjin will represent the said teams.

Registration fee is P500 inclusive of jersey, pack lunch, race kit, and certificate of participation in the event sanctioned by PhilCycling.

Winners will receive cash prizes. In the team event, the champion will receive P6,000 plus trophy while the next four placers will take home P4,000, P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000.

The race is sponsored by the city government of Davao, Congressmen Sid Ungab, Emperador Light, Jaltan Food Centrum, Davao Livestrong Builders Corporation, AG Global, and Racing Edge.

Interested bikers may register at the PhilCycling Office located at Jaltan Bldg. II, Magallanes St. Davao City. (KRP)
