Pinay V-League Davao underway

THE Davao edition of the Philippine Sports Commission Pinay National Volleyball League gets underway at 8 a.m. today at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge William "Butch" Ramirez, representing Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, lawyer Jay Alano of the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) commissioner Vic Abalos are guests in the simple opening rites.

PVF regional director Engr. D' Artagnan "Daks" Yambao yesterday, in text messages, said, "Games will follow right after the opening rites."


Yambao thanked Mayor Duterte, Vice-Mayor Paolo Duterte, SDD-CMO and Mayor Duterte executive assistant Christopher "Bong" Go for their support in hosting the event presented by PSC Commissioner Akiko Thomson and sanctioned by PVF.

A total of 11 teams, he said, confirmed to join with the University of the Immaculate Conception fielding two teams while the Assumption College of Davao, Davao City National High School, Holy Cross College of Sasa, Maa National High School, Pablo Lorenzo National High School, St. Peter's College of Toril, Sta. Ana National High School, Tagum City National High School and Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School has one team each.

The free-registration girls 17-under tournament aims to provide exposure to secondary girls volleyball teams in the city.

Trophies and medals await winners in the tournament that will also have games on July 29, 30 and 31.

Admission is free at Almendras Gym.
