GIRL spikers take centerstage as the Philippine Sports Commission Pinay National Volleyball League Davao leg unfurls on Sunday at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
Twelve teams will vie for honors in the tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF).
PVF regional director Engr. D' Artagnan "Daks" Yambao, accompanied by public information officer Lorenzo Porras, bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall B3 Center on Thursday.
"The 17-under event is exclusive to all secondary schools in Davao," Yambao, also the newly-installed auditor of the Davao City Sports Council, Inc. (DCSCI), said.
He said the competition provides a venue of exposure to all student-athlete volleybelles in the city.
"It's a privilege for PVF to host this tournament here," Yambao said.
He added, "PSC Commissioner Akiko Thomson personally made efforts to make this event possible."
Confirmed teams include the University of Immaculate Conception, Assumption College of Davao, Holy Cross of Sasa, Maa National High School, and Philippine Nikki Jin Kai International School. Other squads have yet to confirm their participation.
Porras, for his part, said they hope to reach 16 teams.
"Registration is free. We welcome teams to join," Porras added.
Volleyball referee Vic Abalos and one international referee will be on hand to supervise the volleyfest.
PSC will provide medals and trophies to the winners.
Porras also urged Dabawenyos to watch the games as admission is free at Almedras Gym. Games will also be played on July 29, 30 and 31.
