DAVAO City Sports Council, Inc. president Ben Sur will leave for General Santos City today to invite Sarangani Cong. and eight-time division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao who will be feted the Lifetime Achievement Award in the 20th So Kim Cheng Sports Awards Night on July 22 at the Grand Regal Hotel.

Sur, guesting in yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the NCCC Mall B3 Center, said: "We really hope that Cong. Pacquiao will be able to join us. His mere presence will really make a difference.

Should he commit, we will ask him to be our keynote speaker for the awards night."
Also expected to grace the affair are Davao del Norte Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario, who will be cited as a sports leadership awardee, and Davao City acting Mayor Paolo Duterte.

Sur said, "It would be an honor for the organization if Pacquiao will confirm his attendance for Tuesday's awarding since we are giving recognitions to talented and skilled young athletes who like him started from the bottom as an amateur boxer."

He added that Pacquiao deserves to be given the Lifetime Achievement award having achieved so much as a boxer from Mindanao. The current
WBO welterweight champion, according to Sur, is a perfect role model for young athletes to continue improving in their respective sports.
Karateka Gabriel Quiñones and chesser Ella Grace Moulic are athletes of the year.

DCSCI general secretary Ronnie Tabudlong, meanwhile, clarified the issue on the selection process, saying, "In our group, we follow certain criteria and guidelines in the selection process of outstanding athletes in each category. An athlete must be a member of an association or sport group that is a member of DCSCI."

"If an athlete is nominated for an award and that athlete is not a member of DCSCI, then he or she is not eligible of the award," Tabudlong added.
On the other hand, DCSCI thanked DSA for its support in DCSCI's activities for the past 20 years.
