Pacman-Digos cop 6 golds, Davao City pug takes silver

HOST Pacman-Digos captured six gold medals while lone Calinan-Davao City finalist settled for the silver at the close of the 2014 PLDT-Abap National Amateur Boxing Championships at the Digos City Gym Sunday.

Jericho Sahohito of Pacman-Digos B pulled off a unanimous decision win over John Paul Ramos of Tayabas to clinch the junior boys light flyweight gold medal while Pacman-Digos A's Ranjo Gil Napoles outclassed Ronald Chavez, Jr. of Makati also via unanimous decision in their junior boys lightweight event.

Ryan Moreno, John Paul Bentoso, GaidylReducto and Jean Manguillan also annexed golds for the Pacman-Digos team. Moreno beat JaybeeCanedo of Camiguin in youth boyspinweight final in a unanimous decision while Bentoso also won on the same note over Robert Paradero of Aglayan, Malaybalay in youth boys light flyweight.


Reducto, for her part, bagged the school girls light pinweight title at the expense JolinaLamberte of Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat while Manguillan took the junior girlspinweight gold over ElaidePamisa of Cagayan de Oro City.

Cagayan de Oro, meanwhile, hauled four golds courtesy of junior boys pinweight Carlo Paalam, a split decision winner over Criz Sander Laurente of Pacman-Digos; youth boys lightweight Sugar Ray Ocana who defeated Calinan's John Bryan Noces who settled for silver; junior girls light flyweight Angelica Dadole, a unanimous decision victor over Sheila Mae Mag-usara of Bago City; and junior girls flyweight Shera Mae Jacinto who prevailed over Joan Sumilhig of Pacman-Digos.

Cebu City pocketed three golds through junior boys flyweight KitCeronGarces, youth boys flyweight Junrel Jimenez and youth boys bantamweight Jorge Edusma. Garces eked out a unanimous decision triumph while JImenez scored a technical knockout victory over Ryan Torres of San Fernando City, La Union barely one minute and 55 seconds left in the second round. Edusma toppled Gilbert Rey Jerusalem of Camiguin.

General Santos City seized two golds from school boys light pinweightCriztian Pitt Laurente and youth girls flyweight Grace Paulo Ganton even as Bago City also grabbed two golds behind junior boys light bantamweight Mario Bautista and junior boys bantamweight Mario Jaga.

Rennie Boy Ferraren gave Zamboangadel Norte its one and only gold in school boys paperweight event.

Medals and cash prizes were awarded to winners of the five-day competition sponsored by Sarangani Cong. Manny Pacquiao in partnership with Davao del Sur Gov. Claude Bautista.

It was sanctioned by the Amateur Boxing Alliances of the Philippines. (MLSA)
