CHRISTOPHER “Bong” Go run into scoring amok in the first half -- highlighted by scoring all the City Hall Executive 19 first period output -- as the Oldies cruised to a 75–62 win against Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) Davao in Game 2 of their 2nd Conference best of seven series on Thursday night at the Davao City Recreation Center Alemndras Gym.
Go, the sweet-shooting executive assistant of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, went on to make 29 of the 36 points of the Executive Oldies in the first two periods to lead his undermanned squad to two to nothing series edge.
The Executive Oldies broke loose in the third canto following a 36-all deadlock at the break behind the master-classed showing of Lawyer Joey Felizarta.
Felizarta, who finished the game with 17 points, provided a huge lift as the City legal Office standout scored eight points in the period to help the Executive Oldies took a 60 – 49 lead entering the pay off period.
Felizarta’s third period boost and timely baskets of other lawyers Elmer Rañon, Michael Peloton and consultant Glen Escandor were good enough to backstop the effort of Go, who was visibly gasping in the second half.
The village chiefs weathered the scoring blitz of Go and played at high level to keep the game on a see-saw battle.
But they couldn’t just turn the tide on its side to find themselves at 0 – 2 hole in the series. Romeo Torrejas topscored for ABC with 12 points. Jesse Culaste had 10.
The Executive Oldies, who controlled the boards behind Rhodelio Poliquit and Leo Braceros, were up 19 – 10 at the end of the first canto.
Felizarta mirrored the Game 1 performance of Rañon, who contributed significantly in Executive Oldies, 81–71, win. (Rico Biliran)
