FORMER World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro and Indonesian Ichbal Tobida stepped on the scales Friday morning, weighing 118 lbs. and 117 lbs., respectively, both ready to rumble in the main event of the Boxing Revolution 1 at Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center Saturday night.

Also featured is the co-main event bout between former WBO Oriental champion Lorenzo 'Thunderbolt' Villanueva of North Cotabato and former WBC Intercontinental champion Hendrick Barongsay of Jakarta, Indonesia. Villanueva tipped the scales at 131 lbs. while Barongsay, 33, registered 129lbs.

Jaro, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said his manager Aljoe Jaro helped him with his training which lasted for two months.

"Kung makaya nako nga ma knockout sya sa first round pa lang mas maayo unta (If I can knock him out in the first round the better)," he added.

Tobida, replying through his interpreter and manager Eric Irawan, said he respects Jaro's words but then he expects the fight to end in the sixth round on his favor.

"I have trained for this fight so I will make it difficult for him", he said in Bahasa Indonesia.

Villanueva, 27, meanwhile, said that he would want to end his fight with Barongsay earlier but he doesn't want to give any prediction.

Barongsay also said it would be tough to predict anything since both of them prepared for the bout.

MP Promotions assistant trainer Nonoy Neri, in a separate interview, said he's confident that two fighters from North Cotabato will pull off wins.

"Most of the boxers were forced to go on a diet in preparation for fight. They were only allowed to take apples, eggs, papaya, and of course water," he said.

Sonshine Sports Management's (SSM) chief executive officer and former North Cotabato Governor Manny Piñol, said, "Everyone is excited for the boxing event especially it’s a new stepping stone for us in terms reviving not only boxing but other sports in Mindanao."

Piñol added Boxing Revolution I is just the first of a series of boxing events that will take place in Davao City.

Adonis Cabalquinto, for his part, will clash against another Filipino boxer Giovane Rota in the undercard.

Preliminary bouts will start at 6 p.m.
