DAVAO City player Ella Grace Moulic dropped to sixth place after four rounds of the girls 16 standard event of the ongoing Asean+ Age-Group Chess Championships in Macau, China on Friday.

The 16-year-old Holy Cross of Davao College student Moulic, seeded fourth, settled a truce with third-seeded Hoang Anh Nguyen of Vietnam in the fourth round following a loss to compatriot and sixth-seeded Samantha Glo Revita in the third.

Moulic, who earned the right to represent Philippines in the Fide-sanctioned event by emerging champion in the same category of the 2014 National Age-Group Chess Championships in Quezon Province, was playing seventh-ranked Mongolia bet Ganchimeg Batsaikhan in Round 5.

The Dabawenya ace tallied a total of 2.5 points along with Batsaikhan, candidate woman master (CWM) Thuy Vy Bui and Nguyen who placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Philippines' Shania Mae Mendoza grabbed the solo lead with 3.5 points while Revita was second with three points in the current individual standings of the 12-player division.

In the girls 16 team rankings, Philippines keeps its hopes alive for the gold medal as Mendoza, Revita and Moulic combined for nine points to take the lead over Vietnam (6.5 points) and Laos (2.0).

Moulic's father Alfred, in Facebook chat, said: "Pildi si Ella, nakabalos, sige lang nine rounds pa man tapos naa pay rapid ug blitz (Ella was beaten, Revita got her revenge. It's okay, it's a nine-round event and there are still rapid and blitz categories)."

It was the first time Revita won over Moulic as the latter had dominated their past meetings since 2012.

Alfred, however, hopes that Moulic and her teammates will win the team gold medal.
