THE Alfa Dance Sport team aims to bring home gold medals when it sees action in the Dance Sport Council of the Philippines (DSCPI)-Midyear Ranking in July in Pasig City.

Mudsci president and Alfa team coach Aldrin Jardinel together with assistant coach Farrah Alfaro bared this during yesterday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center.

Jardinel said that with their recent success in the Philippine National Games (PNG), they are more excited to compete against great dancers all over the country, “Hindi expected yung pagkakapanalo namin sa PNG kasi kami lang ang nag compete from Mindanao. Dahil dun, mas magpupursige pa kami to win medals for the city.”

Alfarro, meanwhile, said that they won’t be settling for less and will do more to bring prestige to Davao City, “As a new team, we are more focused in training our players to make them more prepared for bigger competitions. We make it sure that may patutunguhan ang lahat ng paghihirap ng mga bata and that they will be more competitive sa sport.”

Jardinel siblings, Patrick Kyle and Patricia Louise, of the University of Immaculate Concepcion (UIC) who each clinched a PNG gold were inspired to work hard because of the efforts of their coaches.

Patricia said, “Inspired talaga kami sa coaches namin and we owe all our success sa kanila.”

Patrick also said that being paired with his sister put them on the advantage, “Kahit maraming beses kaming nag-aaway, mas nagiging madali ang practice namin kasi komportable kami sa isa’t-isa. Hopefully manalo kami.”

Alfa team is also bannered by Ateneo de Davao University’s (AdDU) Francis Anthony Abadia, football varsity player Luisa Isabel Uy, triathlete Aaliyah Isabel Pacheco and other athletes from Davao City Special School Sped Bangkal and kids from Paquibato District.

Abadia and Uy recently pocketed silvers in juvenile Latin and standard categories, respectively, while Pacheco captured the gold in the Latin dance category of the Mindanao-wide Dance Sport Competition recently held in Kidapawan City.

Coach Alfarro hoped to gain more support from the city government of Davao to develop more dancesport enthusiasts and also make dancesport known in the grassroots. (MDC)
