FOUR teams will vie for the 1st Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Women’s Basketball Invitational slated May 28 to 31 at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center in celebration of the Davao City Summer Sports for Peace Festival.

These are the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), Enderun Colleges, Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) and Addu.

Addu athletics director Noli Ayo, in yesterday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall B3, said, "This will happen for the first time in the city. I believe that it is only through competing with teams from different cities that we will be able to identify our strengths and weaknesses,” Ayo said.

He added, “I am women-biased kasi sa experience ko hindi talaga nabibigyan ng maraming pagkakataon ang mga babaeng basketball players at kahit sa ibang sports. Kailangan talaga ng support. This is just the start.”

He also said that next year, two teams from Visayas will be invited in the tournament to allow representation from the three major islands of the country.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will officiate the event also held in coordination with the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO).

The AdMU and Enderun will arrive on May 25 and May 27, respectively.
