Davao rider places 4th in PNG

DAVAO City's Eric Dhave Apinar finished fourth in the men's under-23 event of the just-concluded Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) National Games 2014 Mountain Bike Championship in Barangay Bagong Tubig in Tagaytay City on Sunday.

The 20-year-old Apinar clocked one hour and 22 seconds, behind gold medalist Jigo Mendoza who timed 54 minutes and 54 seconds.

John Renee Mier registered 56:06 to take the silver while Ed Mhel John Flores salvaged the bronze with 57:49 in the PhilCycling-sanctioned event.


In women's MTB cross country class, Ariana Dormitorio pocketed the gold with a time of 50:55 while Avegail Rombaon (54:14) settled for silver and Melissa Jaroda (1:02:15) ended up with the bronze.

Nino Surban, meanwhile, captured the men's elite gold medal after clocking 48:56 to race past Dabawenyo March Aleonar (49:51) and Alvin Benoza (50:18) who finished with the silver and bronze, respectively.

Two other members of the Mayor Rody Cycling Team, Mark Darryl Echavez and Reymark Legasan also competed in the bikefest. (MLSA)
