News on the PGA Tour. The Players Championship was held last weekend. Here are the top 10 winners: 1st – Martin Kaymer. 2nd – Jim Furyk. 3rd – Sergio Garcia. Tied for 4th – Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth. Tied for 6th – Jimmy Walker, Rory McIlroy, David Hearn, Lee Westwood, and Francesco Molinari. Martin Kaymer’s paycheck was worth $1.8 million dollars! The purse for that tournament was a whopping $10 million dollars.

News on the Philippine Golf Tour. The ICTSI Valley Golf Challenge was held last weekend. Here are the top ten winners: 1st – Tony Lascuna. 2nd – Jhonnel Ababa. 3rd – Cassius Casas. Tied for 4th – Mars Pucay and Miguel Tabuena. 6th – Eric Mina. Tied for 7th – Elmer Saban, Micah Shin, Ferdie Aunzo, and Albin Engino.

Look at the results. The top three players are from Davao.

Congratulations to Tony ‘Unyot’ Lascuna for winning this tournament. He won by 7 strokes. His paycheck was worth P360,000. FYI, Lascuna is now in the no. 1 spot in the PGT Order of Merit.

The Order of Merit looks so nice. I might as well share it. As of May 10, 2014, 1 – Tony Lascuna, 2 – Charles Hong, 3 – Jay Bayron, 4 – Micah Shin, 5 – Marvin Dumandan, 6 – Jun Rates, 7 – Elmer Salvador, 8 – Jhonnel Ababa, 9 – Clyde Mondilla, 10 – Mars Pucay. So many Davaoenos on the list! I’m so proud! Wouldn’t it be nice to have all top ten coming from Davao? Wishful thinking!

Going back to Martin Kaymer’s prize money last week which is $1.8 million, multiply that with 43.70 equals P78,660,000 pesos. More than 78 million pesos for winning this one tournament as against Tony Lascuna’s recent prize money of P360,000 pesos. No wonder everyone wants to join the PGA Tour.

One last thing. The golfing ladies in Davao are getting ready for the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines (WGAP) tournament scheduled on the first week of June. The venue is at Pueblo de Oro Golf Club in Cagayan de Oro. Apo Golf Club and Davao City Golf Club are joining. I am playing for Apo Golf Club. FYI, we are the defending team champion in our division. Good luck to DCGC and to my team, Apo Golf Club! Practice time!
