THE Davao City Midnight Basketball Cup, a basketball competition for the less privileged children and children in conflict with the law (CICL), was reset from May 12 to May 16 instead.

From the original plan of holding it at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center, the tournament will be played at Brgy. Tomas Monteverde Covered Court in Agdao.

Ronnel Abrenica of the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) bared this in an interview with Sun.Star Davao.

Abrenica said the gym is fully-booked so they looked for an alternative venue for the event that has already drawn 18 barangay teams as of this writing.

He also said they will accommodate up to 70 teams in the cagefest organized by SDD-CMO as part of the Davao City Summer Sports for Peace Festival.

Early registrants include Barangays13-B, 15-B, 21-C, 22-C, 23-C, 24-C, 25-C, 27-C, 30-C, 31-D, 32-D, 33-D, 37-D, Agdao Proper, Agdao Centro, Lapu-lapu, P. Bangoy, San Antonio and Tomas Monteverde.

Abrenica said, "The event is a crime diversion program among the youth to hone their skills through sports and create an avenue for the children to become a part of the community."

Police Community Relations' Supt. CaezarCabuhat will managed the event that will culminate by the end of this month or June.

Teams will be grouped in brackets and will play the single round-robin format in the elimination to determine the top teams that will advance to the next round.

Trophies and medals will be awarded to the winners. (MDC)
