THE City Government of Davao-initiated free volleyball clinic at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center attracted some 130 youngsters from different barangays.
The event, which opened Monday until Friday, is spearheaded by the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.
Volleyball players and beginners including out-of-school youths learned the ropes of the sport such as serving, setting, passing, hitting, blocking and other developmental skills through trainers and coaches from the Philippine Volleyball Federation-Davao Volleyball Association (PVF-Dava) headed by PVF Mindanao director Engr. D'Artagnan "Daks" Yambao.
Neophytes, interviewed by Sun.Star Davao, said they joined the seminar to improve their skills.
Rhea Jane Quiban, a Grade 9 student at the Our Lady of Fatima Academy, said, "Dili man gudko varsity sa volleyball ug nag tryout napud ko dati sa akong school pero wala ko na kapasa. Nagka interes ko muapil para mahibaw-an jud nako unsay kulang sa akong ginabuhat (I am not a volleyball player but I am interested in the sport. I tried out in our school before but I failed. This clinic is helping me know what I still lack so I can make it next time)."
John, a Grade 8 student of Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, said that he wants to gain experience in volleyball because he enjoys playing the sport with his friends.
Maryelle Anne Gonzaga of Barangay 24-C added that the seminar helped her understand the best way to receive the ball although she is a spiker herself.
