THE Ford Academy of the Arts-bannered Davao City team suffered two straight defeats in the 2014 Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars Mindanao finals in Zamboanga City over the weekend.
Davao bowed to Zamboanga, 70-77, before losing to defending champion Cagayan de Oro, 84-89.
Coach Bambi Santander, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao recently, said the team's chance to stay in contention was hurt when Louie John Batoon and Jose Darell Aguanta got injured during the first game.
"Naa ungta tay laban kung wala lang ma-injured ang duha ka key players namo. Wala naman sila kadula gyud. Sayang lagi kaayo (We could have fought if our two main players were not hurt. Both were not able to play anymore. It's very unfortunate)," he said.
Ford won the right to represent the city to the regional finals after beating Assumption College of Davao, 80-67, in the Davao championship.
The city eliminations was organized by the Duterte Basketball League and sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas. (MLSA)
