Air Force, Army bag Dragon boat titles

HIGHLY-TOUTED Philippine Air Force (PAF) snatched two titles while the Philippine Army (PA) clinched the premier open division crown at the close of the 1st Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Summer Sportsfest Dragon Boat Race at Baywalk along Times Beach in Davao City yesterday.

The Air Force tallied a total of 20 points to rule the mixed event while Triton team garnered 17 to settle for the runner-up honors. The Blue Phoenix (14 points), FSUU-A (11 points), FSUU-B (seven), Ampphi (five) and Minokawa (three) occupied the next five spots.

In the women's event, PAF women earned 12 points to outclass Triton (10) for the championship. The latter finished second instead followed by FSUU-A, FSUU-B and Bumshells that shared the next three places with similar six points. Minokawa hit the bottom with two points.
The PA paddlers, meanwhile, enjoyed a one-point advantage to beat PAF, 21-20, in the open class. FSUU placed third with 15 points while Bakunawa (14 points), Ampphi (seven), Triton (six), Naga (three) and Minokawa (three) trailed behind.


The event organized as part of the city's month-long Summer Sportsfest spearheaded by the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office was held in cooperation with the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation. (MLSA)
