PHILIPPINES' Nesthy Petecio, who hails from Davao del Sur, was set to fight for the women's 60 kgs. gold medal against old nemesis Tassamalee Thongjan of Thailand in the Lion's Cup International Boxing Tournament at the Sugathadasa Indoor Arena in Colombo, Sri Lanka as of presstime Friday.

The 21-year-old Myanmar Southeast Asian (SEA) Games silver medalist was among the three boxers of the six-member PLDT-Abap team who booked seats in the finals. The two others were men's flyweight Ian Clark Bautista and bantamweight Mario Fernandez.

Petecio beat Chia Ling Chen of Chinese Taipei in Wednesday's semi-finals via unanimous decision. She earlier eliminated a player from Belgium during the quarter-finals.

Petecio and Thongjan will be meeting for the third time. It can be recalled that the Filipina boxer outclassed the Thai pug in their semis clash in the 2013 Myanmar SEA Games, 3-0. The feat came three years after Petecio lost to Thongjan in her first international competition debut in 2010.

I'm confident but I can't be complacent since I'm playing a veteran. She has beaten me, I have defeated her so she must also be thinking how to win over me)."

Petecio, however, was nursing a swollen right hand before she fights for the gold. She hurt her hand when playing the Belgian foe.

"Dili naman kaayo sakit. Itulog lang nako ni para makapahulay ko usa ang laban (It's not as painful as before. I'll just sleep so I can rest it before the fight)," she said in Friday morning's Facebook chat interview.

In Thursday's Facebook status, Petecio wrote: "Final na bukas isang laban nalang gold na... kamay ko tiis lang wag kang bumigay isang laban nalang makisama ka muna ha."

She assured though that she will endure the pain just to come out victorious.
