THE Davao City-bannered secondary volleyball girls team aims to make into the final four as the Palarong Pambansa volleyball competition unfurls gets on May 4 to 10 at the Laguna Sports Complex in Sta. Cruz.

Having been inspired by the success of the Davao Lady Agilas in the Shakey’s V-League, the Davao City volleyball team, mostly bannered by players from the Ateneo de Davao University, has high hope to improve their performance this year.

In a phone conversation with Sun.Star Davao, coach Kirk Marlon Mojica said that the success of Davao Lady Agilas elated the confidence of their team.

“We had joint training with the Lady Agilas as part of our preparation at sa na-achieve na success ng Agilas sa Shakey’s, mas tumaas talaga ang confidence ng mga players na makipagsabayan sa mga magagaling na contenders sa Palaro,” Mojica said.

Mojica said that they have been training whole year from the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) sportsfest, Shakey’s League, Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet and up to now that they are heading to Palaro.

He said that the teams of Calabarzon, National Capital Region (NCR), Laguna and Cebu are the top teams to beat but with the success of the lady Agilas, they are certain to raise the competition higher.

“Malaki ang impact sa amin ang pagkakapanalo ng Lady Agilas. We have showed to the country that Davao City volleyball players could match the skills of the leading volleyball teams in the country. Hindi lang tayo probinsya kagaya ng tawag nila sa atin. May kakayahan tayo at kaya nating mag compete,” he said.

A total of 17 regions in the Philippines will compete in the secondary girls volleyball competition of the Palarong Pambansa 2014 with NCR as defending champion.
