Three champs crowned for SBC monthlies

ERIC BOOC, Ipet Chua and Gemma Tan annexed the titles of their respective divisions at the close of the Sunday Bowlers Club (SBC) Bowler of the Month finals held Sunday night at the Fairlanes Bowling Center.

Booc who was twice to beat bowed to Jay Libres in the opening round of the showdown, 91-112 but recovered in the second game, 112-105 to emerge champion in class B. In the sudden death, Libres settled for the second place while Boy Detuya, rolling a total of 226 pinfalls, came third.

In Class C, Chua with a twice-to-beat advantage defeated Oca Aplicador in the championship round, 114-87 to capture the title. Aplicador took the runner-up honors while Bong Villamor finished third. Chua rolled a total of 232 pins to grab the first spot in the elimination round and the twice-to-beat advantage. Aplicador (219) and Villamor (215) took the next two spots.


Coming from behind, Tan upset twice to beat Emmy Dejiga, 119-103 and 115-91 in the finals to capture the title in the ladies division. The next two places went to Dejiga and Mercy del Mar, respectively. Dejiga who rolled 236 pins grabbed the first spot in the elimination round followed by del Mar (222) and Tan (191).

All winners received cash prizes and trophies from the organizers of the SBC.

The Davao City Bowlers Association (Daciba) meanwhile is all set for the staging of the 37th Federation of Duckpin Bowlers of the Philippines (Fedbop) Annual Convention and Grand National Bowling Championship Tournament slated on May 5-10 at Mega Dover Lanes.

Emie Orteza of Fedbop said that the entire delegation all over the Philippines will join the flag raising ceremony at the Davao City Hall on May 5. A parade will follow going to Dover Mega Lanes for the formal opening.

He added that a total of over P500,000 in cash prizes, trophies and medals are at stake in the event hosted by Daciba in cooperation with the City Government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office. (MDC)
