IT'S all systems go for the Summer Sports for Peace Festival launch on May 1 at The Annex of SM City Davao.

In Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center, Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) spokesperson Charles Raymond Maxey clarified that even non-athletes can participate in the slated events.

“As part of the Comprehensive Sports Development Program of the city, this festival aims to improve the lives of the Dabawenyos by giving them an avenue to excel through sports,” Maxey said.

He said the festival is beyond sports competition and they have prepared programs that are suited for everyone.

“We don’t just conduct events for the athletes but we provide clinics that will serve as a training ground for all especially in the grassroots level,” he said.

He said that SDD-CMO has also modified the training process and it will only be conducted at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

“The trainings will not be conducted in the different barangays but we will have all the residents of the barangays to participate in the sports trainings such as arnis, basketball, chess, volleyball, futsal and rugby football.”

He added the City Health Office (CHO) will have a free medical check-up while a Sports Scientific Conference is slated on May 8 also at The Annex with Dr. Jose Raul Canlas as main speaker.

The Davao City Summer Sports for Peace Festival focuses on the community as part of the holistic approach of the Duterte Game Plan.
