THE green light is on for the staging of the 15th Davao Horse Show and Competition that will unfurl on May 1 to 3 at the Crocodile Park, Riverfront Corporate City in Maa.
Davao Horse Club president George Walter Misa, who was a guest in Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) forum at NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center lanes, said exciting and more challenging competition will be expected this year.
“The trail is challenging especially for the obstacle race. Some trails are slippery that made some riders and their horses fall last year,” Misa said.
The competition is open to men and women members of the DHC, saying, "We don’t discriminate genders. This is the only sport in the country that men and women play equally. All men and women participants play in the same categories,” he added.
Kobi Troy Tan, meanwhile, said the event features six categories: 15 years old below, novice, intermediate, expert, auxiliary groom’s men and royal for the executives.
Tan said that all players will compete in the oval, barrel and obstacle races.
The oval race includes categories A (59 inches above horse size), B (55 to 58 inches) and C (54 inches below).
“American standard rodeo race will be applied in the barrel race. It is a timed event wherein horses will go around barrels while the obstacle race include jumps, table tops, barrels and bounce which are also time-based,” Tan said.
Team relays, best groomed horse and parlor games are side events. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers of each category.
Horse riders from Clark Pampanga, Cebu, Bohol, Malaybalay Bukidnon, Cagayan De Oro City and Davao City will vie for honors in the annual competition.
