KORONADAL bet Janus Ringia and hometown player Janelle Carmela Llavore captured titles after beating their respective rivals in the 16th Head Graphene Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit at the Nazareth Tennis Club courts in Cagayan de Oro as of yesterday presstime.

Ringia survived past Mat Steve Palasan of Cagayan de Oro, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5) in their boys 14-under championship match while Llavore escaped a nailbiting 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 victory over Geniffer Pagente in girls 16-under finals.

Tournament director Juanito "Titong" Cansino, Jr., in text messages to Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said Ringia and Llavore were both nominated as best players for the third leg having booked finals seats in three divisions.

Championship matches in other singles and doubles events were still being played as of this writing.

Trophies, tennis merchandise and ranking points will be awarded to the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned Group 2 event.

The 11-leg tour will take a break for the Holy Week and will resume on April 21 to 24 at the Lapaz Tennis Club courts in Iloilo City. From there, players will have more opportunities to earn Philta points in the remaining legs: Bacolod (April 26-30), Dumaguete (May 2-6), Consolacion Cebu (May 8-12), Baguio (May 14-18), Olongapo (May 20-24), San Pablo (May 26-30) and Manila (June 2-7).

Some age-groupers are competing in the tour as part of their Palarong Pambansa preparations. The Palaro is set on May 4 to 11 in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
