15 Davao players all set for nat'l age-group chess

A TOTAL of 15 players from the Davao Region will compete in the 2014 National Age-Group Chess Championship finals slated to start on April 21 to 28 at Leachar Resort and Leisure Park in San Antonio, Quezon Province.

Fide master (FM) Austin Jacob Literatus, a varsity player at the National University, will see action in boys under-20 event for Davao along with Holy Cross of Davao College's Alvin Acas and Jose Maria College's Clark Kent Anabieza.

University of Mindanao (UM) bet Exiquila Apao, silver medalist in the just-concluded Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Games, will compete in girls under-20.


UM's Dhona Yngayo and Rowelyn Joy Acedo, a mainstay of De La Salle University, are entered in girls under-18 HCDC's Ella Grace Moulic and JMC's Joerlz Gimony will show their wares in girls under-16.

DLSU-based Dabawenyo John Marvin Miciano will test his mettle in boys under-14 together with Carl Zirex Sato of Panabo City while JMC’s Honey Grace Buenafe and Frince Ezra Vanjo Ocliasa of Mati will vie for honors in girls under-14.

Boys under-12 bet Earl Rhey Mantilla of Davao Wisdom Academy and girls under-12 players Irish Yngayo of Davao Central College will also compete as well as Jackie Lou Andoy who will make her national debut in girls under-eight.

The team's trainers and coaches are Ely Acas, Alfred Moulic and Rowel Medina, among others.

A total of 112 chess players will bid for titles in the annual meet organized by the National Chess Confederation of the Philippines.
