Junior golf summer clinic opens April 7

THE Junior Golf League of Davao (JGLD) will hold its 2014 Summer Golf Program on April 7 to May 28, 2014 to encourage all junior golfers in Davao City to enhance their skills in the sport.

Monchit Mackay of JGLD, who guested at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center yesterday, said the golf clinic which will be held in two separate venues: Apo Golf and Country Club Driving Range with swing coach Renato Casas and at Golf View Driving Range with Joseph Labajo as swing coach.

Mackay said the 12-session course is open to all junior golfers age 17 years old and below with a registration fee of P2,000 for local resident and P2,500 for foreign dependent inclusive of three buckets of golf balls per session.


“Davao City has produced outstanding golfers in the Philippines and we want to continue with that legacy by reaching out to the youth through this golf clinic. This industry is booming especially in the city and hopefully we could produce more world-class athletes,” he said.

He added that an open golf tournament will also be slated in three different venues which feature age group, beginners and advanced categories.

“The tournament is also a way for the participants to apply what they have learned from the golf clinic and be able to compete in the sport,” he said.

Tournament fee is at P500 for JGLD members while P750 for non-members inclusive of snacks and discounted rates of golf carts.

Tournament schedule will run for two days per venue: Apo Golf and Country Club (April 28-29), Davao City Golf Club (May 12-13) and Palos Golf and Country Club (May 27-28).

All winners per category will receive trophies.
