PLNHS, DCNHS, KES, AdDU annex volley titles

THE Pablo Lorenzo National High School (PLNHS), Davao City National High School (DCNHS), Kabacan Elementary School (KES), and Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) captured titles at the close of the just-concluded Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong 77th Araw ng Dabaw Primary School Invitational Tournament at the DCNHS indoor volleyball courts.

PLNHS spanked DCNHS, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19, in their High School boys championship match. PLNHS bested University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), 25-13, 25-13, in the semi-finals to arrange a titular clash with DCNHS, a 25-20, 25-23 semis winner over AdDU.

UIC survived past AdDU, 15-25, 25-19, 25-19 in their battle for third.


The DCNHS lady spikers, for their part, breezed past PLNHS, 25-15, 25-20 to capture the High School girls crown of the tournament organized and sanctioned by the Davao Amateur Volleyball Association (Dava) and sponsored by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO). UIC also placed third after whipping Precious International School of Davao (PISD), 25-8, 25-10.

In the Grade School division, KES recovered from a first set loss by beating Jose Bastida Elementary School (JBES), 13-25, 25-21, 25-22 for the boys' title while UIC subdued Assumption College of Davao (ACD), 25-15, 25-15 to seize the third spot.

AdDU volleybelles escaped past JBES, 25-21, 26-24 to rule the Grade School girls event. The Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Elementary School (KTMES) recovered from a second set loss to overcome KES, 25-19, 23-25, 25-14 in their encounter for third place.

Organizers, meanwhile, gave away certificates to the individual awardees. For High School, Menard James de Villa of PLNHS and Eunice Mabayao of DCNHS were hailed as most valuable players (MVPs). DCNHS' Arwen Cabanban, Julius Vallejo and Daniel Anillo were named best libero/receiver, best setter and best attacker, respectively, in the boys' division. Reggie Garbe of PLNHS was best server while Edward Christian Bisguera of UIC was best blocker and Angelo Alba of AdDU was best attacker.

The other High School Girls awardees were DCNHS' Lycha Ebon (best server), Georgie Loreto (best setter, best scorer); PLNHS' Sheena Dae Gallentes (best libero/receiver); UIC's Kristina Carol Sagarang (best blocker) and PISD's Mariam Dulce Faith Enriquez (best attacker).

In Grade School category, Alvin Rey Barros of KES and Keanna Delle Adlao of AdDU romped away with the MVP honors. Barros also took the best server and best setter titles as teammate Lloyed Aringo was named best receiver in the boys' class.

JBES' Kobe Daniel Miranda (best attacker, best scorer) and UIC's Dux Euan Yambao (best blocker) also shared the limelight along with the girls awardees: best receiver Nicolle Remitar (KTMES), best server Aera Miguela Gonzaga (AdDU), Thea Mariz Borres (JBES), best blocker Katrina Mae Blanco (AdDU), best attacker Faye Sophia Ysabelle Nisperos (AdDU) and best scorer Takako Fujimoto (AdDU).

Charles Raymond A. Maxey represented SDD-CMO OIC William "Butch" Ramirez during the awarding rites where Dava president and PVF Director Engr. D'Artagnan "DAKS" Yambao, Dava commissioner Henry Labio, Jr. and PIO and chief referee Lorenzo Porras also awarded Certificates of Excellence to the top four teams in each category.

Yambao thanked SDD-CMO for supporting their event and the Task Force Davao for providing security during the two-day competition that was held as part of the annual Araw ng Dabaw sportsfest.
