Abad-Vicente rules tennis doubles

THE tandem of Daniel Abad and Barry Vicente survived a first set loss to beat Juan Paolo Cansino and Gabriel Perez, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5, in the finals of the just-concluded Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte 77th Araw ng Dabaw Sportsfest Class A Doubles Tennis Championships at the GSIS Heights Tennis Club courts in Matina.

Abad-Vicente earlier defeated the pair of Arnold Sarabia and Bengot Casal, 6-3, 6-4, to set up a titular showdown with Cansino and Perez who escaped past Marvin Camino and Butchok Jayme, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4, in the semi-finals.

Sarabia-Casal was the pair that eliminated top-seed duo of Roland Diamante and Edgar Quinones, 7-6 (11-9), 4-6, 13-11 in the quarter-finals.


The other quarter-finalists were the doubles of Alfredo Delvo and John Mark Flores, Don-Don Ysulat and Bebing Amazona and Marlon Abad and Boboy Paradero.

The winners including semi-finalists and quarter-finalists will have yet to receive their cash prizes in the netfest organized by Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) regional vice-president Juanito "Titong" Cansino, Jr. and sponsored by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.

It was hosted by the GSIS Heights Tennis Club Inc. and Slazenger as official ball. (MLSA)
