Derecho-Domingo pair leads 1st rnd winners

ZEUS Derecho and Fritz Domingo hacked out an 8-2 win over Nemesio Elma III and Vincent Alfeche to lead first round winners of the Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte 77th Araw ng Dabaw Class A Doubles Tennis Championships that opened at the GSIS Heights Tennis Club courts yesterday.

Derecho-Domingo will play Roland Diamante and Edgar Quiñones in the next round.

In other matches, the pair of Anin Bongas and JR Paculaba defeated Ace Salazar and Jonathan Palac, 8-5, while Arnold Sarabia and Bengot Casal outclassed Jojo Idpan and Pating Diongko, 8-5.


Jun Lagare and Arnel Berdan turned back Allan Leonardo and John Rex Limbo, 8-5, even as Joar Galinato and Ronel Balaod bowed to Alfredo Delvo and John Mark Flores, 6-8, and Ian Cadolada and Francis Ramires succumbed to Eric Litang and Oset Judabal, 5-8.

Elimination games were ongoing as of this writing. Semis and finals matches are set today in the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned meet organized as part of the annual Araw ng Dabaw sportsfest presented by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO).

The doubles champion will pocket P10,000 while the runner-up will claim P5,000. The losing semi-finalists will get P2,500 per pair and losing quarter-finalists will go home with P1,000 each pair. (MDC)
