TRMH-CMO, Montaña bare rosters for ‘Araw’ cagefest

DEFENDING champion The Royal Mandaya Hotel-City Mayor's Office (TRMH-CMO) and Montaña Pawnshop bared on Friday their rosters for the Mayor Rody Duterte & Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte-77th Araw ng Davao Commercial Invitational Basketball Tournament that will unfurl at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

TRMH-CMO coordinator Jek Melendres, in a text message to Sun.Star Davao on Friday, said US-trained coach Ronel Leuterio will coach their team that will try to keep the crown this year. They will rely on the services of Celino Cruz, Ramsey Williams, Eman Calo, Jojo Tangkay, Chris Calaguio, Nino Gelig, Kojack Melegrito, Dino Daa, Darwin Cordero, Erick Rodriguez, Dennis Daa, Hafer Mondragon, Mark Andaya, John Ferriols and Devon Sullivan.

Montaña Pawnshop, mentored by Nick Serafica, will be bannered by Ronald Lamocha, JayR Gerilla, Abby Santos, Mark Ababon, Jay Godez, Edgar Awitin, Joshua Adalid, Tibot Blanco, Don Adormeo, Kirr Guibay, Mikko Estrellante and Lolong Aparece.


Davao City-based Goldstar Hardware and newly-crowned Kalilangan Festival champion MP Pacman Warriors team of General Santos City are also entered in the event organized by the Duterte Basketball League and sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas regional director Regino "Boy" Cua.

Teams will play a single round robin elimination where the top two teams will play for the title on March 19, while the last two squads will battle for third.

The champion will win P100,000 cash prize and a trophy, while the runner-up will claim P60,000. The next two placers will receive P50,000 and P30,000.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is guest speaker in the simple opening rites that also expects City Administrator Melchor Quitain, Sports Development Division OIC William "Butch" Ramirez and the Liga Dabaw Board headed by its chairman Dr. Guillermo Torres and vice-chairman Atty. Manz Carpio.

Games will be played on March 16 to 19 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free. (MLSA)
