THE 77th Araw ng Dabaw Ultimate Race Weekend, earlier set on March 15 and 16, was reset to March 29 and 30 instead at the Speed City Crocodile Park, Diversion Road in Ma-a.

Jong Uy of 5th Gear cited the ongoing cementing of the Crocodile Park road behind the postponement of the event during yesterday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall Davao, Bowling, Billiards and Bar (B3) Center.

“Two weeks prior to the supposed event on March 15, the engineers of Sta. Lucia who are doing the ongoing reconstruction of the roads notified us that the cemented roads are still not passable,” Uy said.

He said the postponement has already been announced to participants from other parts of Mindanao and the Visayas because some of them have already booked their flights.

“We will be expecting racers from the cities of Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, General Santos, Bacolod and a lot from Davao,” Uy said.

He said that this is the first time that two big races is hosted by Davao City - Phoenix Accelerate Vega Regional Autocross Championships and the 2014 Phoenix Cup 1/8 Mile Regional Shoot Out Championships.

The autocross on Marrch 29 features top racers in Mindanao and different auto clubs under the Federation of Automobile Clubs of Davao. It will have six race rounds and will race on a new format wherein at the end of the season, each city will be naming its respective top driver. At the end of the year, all top drivers will race for the top awards in Cebu City for the 2014 Regional Driver of the Year.

The regional shoot out championships, meanwhile, is slated March 29-30. It will be held simultaneously in four different cities in Visayas and Mindanao.
