ADDU, DCSP spikers post back-to-back wins

THE Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) and DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP) posted back-to-back wins in the resumption of the Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte 77th Araw ng Dabaw Inter-Collegiate Invitational Volleyball Tournament Sunday at the Philippine Women's College of Davao (PWC) Gym.

Ateneo bounced back from a first set loss by beating PWC, 16-25, 25-22, 28-26 in the morning before surviving a 25-20, 19-25, 22-25 win over Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC). Ateneo, thus, took the top spot of the men's Pool A with two wins while 1-1 PWC took the second spot and 0-2 HCDC gabbed the cellar of the team standings.

In men's Pool B, DCSP defeated University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep)-Mintal via default following a 27-25, 25-22 victory over the University of Mindanao (UM) in the opener Saturday. The 2-0 DCSP paced the bracket while 1-1 UM, which also won over Usep-Mintal via forfeiture, was second and 0-2 Usep-Mintal last.


HCDC and UM, meanwhile, led their respective groups with unbeaten slates. HCDC escaped a 24-26, 25-5, 25-13 triumph to snatch their second win after spanking Jose Maria College (JMC), 25-18, 25-21.

The HCDC volleybelles toted a 2-0 card to take the top spot of women's pool A while 1-1 JMC, which routed Ateneo, 25-11, 25-17, came second with a 1-1 record. Ateneo dropped to 0-2.

In women's pool B, the Carlos "Kaloi" Gabucan, Jr.-coached UM lady spikers overwhelmed PWC, 25-14, 25-10, after whipping SPC, 25-21, 25-17. UM held a 2-0 mark over 1-1 SPC and 0-2 PWC. SPC demolished PWC, 25-15, 25-10, earlier.

Games will resume on March 23 in the tournament organized and sanctioned by Balibolista de Dabaw as part of the Araw ng Dabaw sportsfest sponsored by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office. (MLSA)
