THE Association of Differently-Abled Persons Inc. (Adap) is all set to hold several competitions for persons with disabilities slated last week of March in celebration of the 77th Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival.
Adap president Redendo Martinez, in a recent Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall Promenade 2, said the events entered are basketball, table tennis and wheelaton for wheel chair users, volleyball for the deaf, goal ball for the visually impaired, intellectual sports for children with disabilities and chess for the visually impaired and physically handicapped.
Martinez said that this will be the third time that they will conduct basketball and volleyball games. "All ball games will follow the standard rules except that in volleyball, signage will be used for violation calls since the players are all hearing impaired," he said.
He added, "The visually impaired can also join the wheelaton for as long as they will have a guide. It will take place along Roxas Avenue to People's Park so that the people could really watch but with the assistance of the Traffic Management Center (TMC)."
He hoped that all differently-able persons in Davao City will participate in their events, saying, "All of these are part of our advocacy to have persons with disabilities from the city who will participate in the National PARA Games on April 24."
A total cash prize of P 37,500 was allocated by the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) for the Adap sportsfest. (MDC)
