THE Mayor Rody Dutete and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Invitational Cycling Challenge will feature two events - the mountain bike cross country challenge on March 15 and the road cycling race on March 16.

The MTB, which will be around the vicinity of Barangay Langub and Magtuod, is open to all individual men 23-under junior category and 18-under midgets division. Riders in the latter category, however, will have to secure a parental consent.

PhilCycling deputy secretary for Mindanao Salvador "Jun" Paholio, Jr., said the 27-kilometer MTB race covers three laps of a nine-kilometer loop for 23-under and two laps for the 18-U.

Champions will receive P3,000 each while the runners-up will claim P2,000 apiece and the third-placers will each go home with P1,000. They will also get medals.

In the road cycling, riders will traverse the Davao –Buda road with a Barangay Baganihan Marilog District as turning point and ending at Ecoland West Drive in Quimpo Boulevard, Matina.

Each team shall field six riders with one or two elite riders and three or four 23-under cyclists.

Team champion will bag P 6,000 and a trophy while the junior 18-under titlist will romp away with P 3,000 and medal.

“We are privileged that through our efforts, we have produced notable local riders, Brylle Chavez Cocjin and Jason Caseres who won gold and silver medals, respectively in the boy’s MTB event during the Batang Pinoy 15 under National Championships last January 30 in Bacolod City,” Paholio said during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum.

He said that this is a great way to develop young riders as part of their grassroots program at the same time prepare for the Philippine National Games slated May 24 to June 2, 2014.

The race will be run under Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines-International Cycling Union (ICFP-UCI) regulations.

No entry fee will be collected from the participants but a true copy of birth certificate and a PhilCycling-UCI License shall be submitted before March 4.
