Echalico, Ambasa top Run for City High

MICHAEL John Echalico and veteran Mona Liza Ambasa clinched the 10-kilometer (10K) titles of the just-concluded Run for City High held Sunday at the Davao City National High School (DCNHS).

Echalico, of People's Park Running Team, registered 36 minutes and 34 seconds to rule the men's event over Mark Anthony Raya of the University of Mindanao and Nestor Madula of Team Titans. Raya timed 39:19 while Madula finished in 39:45.

Ambasa checked in at 51:46 in the women's event, racing past Virginia Tumapon (55:50) of Team Titans while Eula Minis (01:04:02) finished third.


In men’s 5K, Brokenshire College of Davao’s Rolly Paderna clocked 18:58 to prevail over Lloyd Malinaw (19:11) and Esteban Quilaton (20:24) of the Holy Cross of Davao College.

Ruffa Sorongon, meanwhile, took the women's crown with a time of 21:23. She stunned multi-titled Criselyn Jaro (21:55) of Brokenshire and HCDC’s Jolly Mae Gabaisen (22:23).

DCNHS' Jan Wiel Ceballo (14:20) stamped his men’s 3K rivals Jarred Roy Labrado (15:18) and Lionel Bouvier (15:24) who placed second and third, respectively.

Rechelle Bosalo of DCNHS, for her part, emerged women's 3K champion over Nicky Lynn Casinao and Karen Pearl Briones. Basalo had a time of 16:59 while Casinao finished in 19:06 and Briones with 25:39.

The footrace was organized by DCNHS Batch `89 headed by president Darrius Kenny in cooperation with Vantage Sports Promotions.

The proceeds of the Run for City High will benefit the reconstruction of DCNHS pathways and other facilities.
