UNIVERSITY of Mindanao (UM) multi-titled varsity scholar Sonny Wagdos and Michelle Cabreros clinched the 8K titles of the 1K@Amway Davao Fun Run held Sunday in an out-and-back course from Tulip Drive, Quimpo Boulevard in Matina.

Criminology student Wagdos, a 2013 National University Games double gold medalist, topped the men's side over Richard Noval and Ivarat Ramale who finished second and third, respectively, while Cabreros outran Emely Ong and Carin Macapagal who ended up in the next two places.

Unheralded Glenn Payac ruled the men's 5K as he raced past rivals Joselito Dugos and Luyao Rolando while Langie Meder emerged champion in the distaff side over next two placers Ludelyn Andiso and Judy Ann Juntado.

In 3K, Joppe Sabitan bested Gerald Lamatan and Allan Antiga for the men's crown while Ronnamae Arsenio stamped rivals Joselyn Bernal and Rhezza Gonzaga in women's event.

Registration forms are available at Amway Davao along Tulip Drive, Quimpo Boulevard in Matina. Fee is P200 for 8K, 5K and 1K categories inclusive of shirt, race bib and raffle stub.

The annual race, which benefited the Lacson Elementary School through Amway's One By One Campaign for Children, drew some 3,000 runners to register a new record after registering some 1,200 last year.

Winners received medals and Amway gift packs while lucky participants went home with exciting prizes in the race managed by Vantage Sports Promotions under Kenneth Sai. (MLSA)
