PANABO City’s Henry Roger Lopez emerged champion in the just concluded 1st Felis Resort Open Chess Championship at Felis Resort Complex Conference Hall, Matina Aplaya.
Lopez finished first with 6 points taking the champion’s prize of P10,000 in the 6 rounds Swiss System one-day tournament that drew a total of 103 players.
Reynaldo Quiñonez finished second by scoring 5.5 points and took home P4,000, while 5 pointers International Master Kim Steven Yap and National Master Winston Joseph Silva received a cash prize of P2,500 and P1,000 to share the third and fourth spots, respectively.
The fifth to 10th places went to Lyndon Binatero Sombilon, James Infiesto, Reynaldo Gempero Jr., Samuel Yu, Cirilo Enobio who garnered identical five points each and Ferdinand Leysa who made 4.5 points. Each received P500.
John Gerard Acedo and Mary Israel Palero received P1,000 as Best Junior and Best Female, respectively, while Kurt John Placencia was awarded Best Kiddie in the under-14 category.
The event was sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) and sponsored by Felis Resort with chief arbiter NM Prospero Cruz, MTCC secretary Nestor Ngo, tournament director Ronnie Tabudlong and Felis Resort manager Rona Licera. (MDC)
