DAVAO City blanked Compostela Valley, 5-0, to capture the secondary boys gold medal as the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet football competition came to a close at the spanking multi-million Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City recently.

Javier J. Romero Salas and Darius Joseph Diamante netted two goals each as Patrick George Pineda added one goal to complete the rout.

The Albert Ryan Lim-coached Ateneo de Davao University players-laden Davao City squad blanked Davao del Norte, 4-0, in the semi-finals after sweeping all their games in the elimination round.

Lim's wards crushed Tagum City, 4-0, before whipping Davao Oriental, 5-1, and toying with the hapless Davao del Sur, 5-0. Davao City's booters overwhelmed Compostela Valley, 5-0.

The champion team was also bannered by strikers Salas, Jonathan Ryan S. Lim, Glean Paolo A. Lumabao; holding mid-fielders Rafael Avanceña; attacking wingers John Rhey Lagura, Joshua Royce Lim; wing defenders Joshua James Valdes, Justin Luke Amoguis; central defenders Lorenzo Raphael Magno, Jacob Elijah Liao, Leander Varquez; and John Rey Cuesta from A.L. Navarro National High School of Lasang.

Coach Lim said Winston Capundag missed action as he was sidelined by dengue during the Davraa Meet.

Assistant coaches were Alex Adolfo, Tatz Sasuman and Sandro Balderas.

Lim, however, downplayed their gold medal chances in the Palarong Pambansa, saying: "We have 50-50 chance."

The team is expected to resume training in preparation for the 2014 Palaro slated May 4 to 10 in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
