A WIN is never complete if it is achieved in unsporstmanlike gestures and antics.

“De La Salle University Lady Spikers star player Mika Reyes says her on-court ‘angasan’ with University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigress neophyte Ria Meneses during their game in the first round never got personal.” (PinoyExchange.com)

Maybe the stars of volleyball starring DLSU want to establish their own level of play UAAP-style.

“Inside the court lang naman yon,” Mika Reyes said simply, which I would take to mean more excitement and challenge in the court. However, the second round showed a lot of improvement in the court bearing of players.

UAAP women volleyball games scaling to intense rivalries with DLSU looking for a quadruple championship title while the frontrunners are all thirsting for a title and dead set to ending the 3-year domination of the Lady Spikers. Is this volleyball scaling to sports animosities, UAAP-style?

The so-called angasan blues never got personal, yes, but it will downgrade the beautiful genre of the games.

In Chapter 7 Participants Conduct of the PVF Refresher Course “20.2 FAIR PLAY” states that “Participants must behave respectfully and courteously in the spirit of FAIR PLAY, not only towards the referees, but also towards other officials, the opponent, team mates and spectators.

“Incorrect conduct by a team member towards officials, opponents, team mates or spectators is classified in three categories according to the seriousness of the offense.”

UAAP fans expect to see pure volleyball power working specially in the much awaited showdown between defending champion DLSU and frontrunner National University this weekend.
