Ateneo booters win 3 titles in Sakya tourney-A A +A

ATENEO De Davao University (AdDU) clinched three titles at the close of the 5th Sakya Filipino-Chinese Football Cup 2014 held Saturday at Tionko football grounds along Quimpo Boulevard.
AdDU Blue bagged the girls 12-under over Sakya FC that placed second while AdDU White and Southpoint FC took the third and fourth spots, respectively. Luisa Uy of AdDU was named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
In boys 10-under, AdDU A emerged champion with Andrei Villarino as MVP beating A-Kids FC, Crocs FC and Guardians FC which settled for second, third and fourth, respectively.
In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, AdDU Coach Ruel Sasuman said that the efforts of all AdDU trainers, coaches and players paid off.
“We really help each other in Ateneo. When it comes to football, our programs are continuous. We did not expect to win this time because the concentration of the school is in Davraa and our rival A-Kids have improved a lot,” he said.
AdDU, for its part, also won the champion’s prize in the boys eight-under while Crocs FC, Hyenas and Southpoint settled for runner-up spots. Kyle Sy of AdDU took the MVP honors.
Black Knights ruled the 14-under category with MVP Macmac Diamat defeating Sakya Boys, Columbia Junior and Sakya Girls that finished second, third and fourth, respectively, while A-Kids of Valencia City Bukidnon took the gold medal in the 12-under boys against Black Knights, Southpoint and Elite FC, which took the next three spots. Tarshish Jacob Garciano of A-Kids was awarded as the most valuable player.
Coach Edgar Paña of A-Kids said this is their first win in Sakya and they are honored to play against great football teams in the city. Dante Ardines and Jed Anthony Dagoro also served as the teams trainers.
Meanwhile, German Olympic Sport Federation-Philippine Football Federation (PFF) grassroots consultant Thomas Roy together with Uwe Heinz Horst Loewenstein of Germany, PFF technical director for Mindanao coach Percy Guarin and Philippine U-14 national coach Eliezer Fabroda conducted inspection of U-14 players during the cup and selected players for the final try-out in Valencia City, Bukidnon as part of the FIFA goal project.
All winners received trophies and medals from the event organized in cooperation with the Davao Football Association (DFA).
