THE Lady Knights Football Club of Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) hacked out a close 3-2 win against Hinex Khanj United in the 3rd DFA (Davao Football Association) U17 Girls Football League last Saturday at the Faith Academy Football Field, Marfori Heights.

Sanaa Jikiri of Hinex opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Hinex, however, conceded two goals courtesy ofby AdDU's Jana Barcemo and Nina Arrieta in the 27th and 40th minutes, respectively.

In the 42nd minute, Jikiri of Hinex equalized but a strike from Joana Adao of AdDU in the 58th sealed the victory for the Lady Knights.

Coach Julio Orcasitos Jr. of Lady Knights FC said in an interview with Sun.Star Davao that due to their lack of players, all they did is counterattack.

"One of our advantages is that our team is an all pack AdDU students. Buo gyud mi unlike the other teams. Since we are all from AdDU, I can directly monitor the performance of my team during practices," he said.

Sakya Football Club, meanwhile, dominated Faith Academy, 6-1. A lone goal from Jessica Arcenas of Faith Academy in the 10th could do nothing to stop a trio of braces from Sakya FC strikers' Agot Danton (8th, 36th), Moira Calizo (27th, 74th) and Joy Simacio (48th, 53rd) which put the game out of balance.

In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, DFA women's tournament chairperson Rachelle "Ching" delos Reyes said that the league is set to provide experience and a venue for women football players in the city, "Davao City has some of the best football players in the country and through this league, we will be able to give our lady football players the exposure they deserve," she said.

The ceremonial kick off was graced by Faith Academy sports director, Andy Tillman and Daryl Valdez of Taku Football Foundation. Michael Jay Fernandez serves as match commissioner.

The event which will resume on February 15, was organized by DFA Women's Department and sponsored by Taku Football Foundation and Magic Jelly Powder Gulaman. (MDC)
