Davao X-Trail Triathlon set Sunday at PIPBR

SOME 115 participants will vie for honors when the Davao Xtrail Triathlon that will kick off at 6 a.m. on Sunday at the Paradise Island Park and Beach Resort, Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos).

In the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) forum at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Thursday, Alex Sam of Lead Pack Events and Management said triathletes from General Santos, Zamboanga, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, Cebu and Manila have confirmed their entries.

"Filipino Ironman champion Banjo Norte is joining the event along with Brian Borling of Cagayan de Oro. They're among the noted triathletes competing this Sunday," Sam said.


The route covers one-kilometer swim, 25-kilometer mountain bike ride and seven-kilometer trail run for participants in male and female 16 to 20 years old, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50 and 50-above categories.

“Igacos and the rest of Davao Region will witness a very challenging triathlon this Sunday and hopefully if this will be a big hit, we will have a repeat within this year,” he said.

PIPBR assistant resort manager Jun Diamante, meanwhile, said it's their first time to host triathlon and they are excited with the impact their hosting will bring to the entire island city.

Diamante said, "Through this event, we hope to showcase Samal not just as an island with beautiful beaches but also as a great venue for adventure races, trail runs and other big competitions."

Sam said celebrity triathletes Matteo Guidicelli and Paul Jake Castillo earlier confirmed their participation but recently cancelled due to other showbiz engagements.

Trophies and medals await the winners. A finisher's shirt and a road ID will be given to all participants.

Live bands, circus and other fun activities will spice up the affair.
