THE Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) swept three titles at the close of the recently-concluded 3rd Vicenta Tionko Memorial Football Cup held at the Tionko field.
Ateneo won in the 12-under A, 14-under A and 14-under C categories.
Ateneo bested Sakya Football Club and Digos City for the 12-under A crown. The Ateneo booters prevailed over Sakya A and Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) in 14-U A then subdued Philippine Women’s College (PWC) and Digos City in 14-under C.
Black Knights A, meanwhile, ruled in 12-under B beating South Point School and Indangan even as the Black Knights B emerged champion in 12-U over Anakk B and St. Paul College of Davao.
In 14 under B, Black Knights stamped rivals Davao Central FC and Anakk B that placed second and third, respectively.
Anakk A dominated 16-under A while Viper FC and Eden FC took the next two spots. The 16-U B title went to Anakk B at the expense of Ateneo and Central FC.
The festival also featured 6-10 under categories where the kids were encouraged to play freely.
Davao Football Association (DFA) general secretary Erwin Protacio, in an e-mail to Sun.Star Davao, said the key concept of the 6-10 under categories was to advocate exchanges and sharing of human values in the grassroots level.
“Kids are encouraged to play freely and have fun guided by their coaches who have internalized what they have experienced from attending the Fifa grassroots course organized by DFA,” he said.
DFA presented a token of appreciation to Mr. Martin Tionko for his support. The event was held in cooperation with the University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao, Barangay Mintal, Che Flo’s Gourmet Food Van, Premium Sports and Columbia Computer.
