DAVAO City's elementary softball team vowed to recover from their finals loss last year when it competes anew in the 2014 Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet set February 9 to 12 at the Davao del Norte and Sports Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

Coach Isidiro Gaitano, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said, "We will fight back!”

“We could have won in last year’s softball tournament but my players lacked the experience. Now, we are ready to fight again because my team has been exposed to softball and we already have an idea on how our rivals play,” he said.

Gaitano said that last year, there was a little bit of conflict about the changing of tournament managers, among other concerns, that affected the performance of the team. “But that was just normal. The kids were maybe intimidated at that time. Pero karon, bawi gyud mi! (This time, we will recover!),” he said.

He said that he has a good lineup this year and he is confident because one of their pitchers has played in Palarong Pambansa in the previous year. “This is my original team, all from Baguio Central Elementary School and we also have additional two players from Gumalang Elementary School and Biao Elementary School,” he said.

The team will play Davao del Sur in a pre-opening game on Feb. 8.

“I am hoping to win but if not, I won't regret. I will constantly train these kids for them to give a great performance in the entire Davraa Meet,” he added. (MDC)
