THE Davao City National High School (DCNHS) under 15-girls volleyball team is all set to compete in the Batang Pinoy National Championships 2013 slated Jan. 28 to Feb. 1 in Bacolod City.

Coach Soledad Toriño, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said that they will do their best to make Davao City proud.

“This is a new team and this is also our first time to join Batang Pinoy but DCNHS is a consistent title holder in this sport. I am optimistic that we will win,” she said.

Toriño said that she sees the improvement of her team since they started practicing June of last year.

“They were having difficulties in spiking and digging before but our daily practice helped my players improve,” she said.

She said that she constantly monitors the performance of the players to prepare them for the finals.

She owes their participation to the players’ parents who provided for the financial assistance at the same time to Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for allocating P 3,000 for each player. “We did not receive financial support from the city government, pero naningkamot gihapon mi (The city has not given us any financial assistance but we really did our best to raise funds),” she said.

The is composed of all Grade 8 students, Kim Concensino (team captain), Eunice Mabayao (captain ball), Lyka Ibon (assistant captain ball), Lyle Amora, Jessa and Jonessa Monteposo, Georgie Loreto, Mika Crisanto, Ma-an Iligan, Lucile Almonte, Pauline Hibres, Alex Unilonggo and Denise Jan Nicole Banghal.
