PREPARATIONS shift to high gear for the upcoming 2014 Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival.

The Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) and members of the National Sports Association of Davao Region met Monday to discuss the annual sportsfest.

In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, Rico Biliran of SDD-CMO said the meeting determined the NSAs that will hold events for the city's foundation anniversary.

"We want to have a smooth organization for the Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival and the NSAs will be a big help. We wanted to find out if there will be more tournaments this March," Biliran said.

He said representatives from different sports associations, such as volleyball, cycling, karatedo, wrestling, triathlon, wakeboard, chess, judo, taekwondo and tchoukball, have showed interest.

"We are glad that we will be having tchoukball for the first time," he said.

He said one of the roles of the SDD-CMO is to fund different tournaments set by NSAs; however, they have yet to submit their budgetary proposals first.

NSAs, according to him, were required to submit their proposals on Friday; otherwise, their Kadayawan budget last year will be the basis for their fund allocation.

He said the SDD-CMO and NSAs were still on the first stage of their preparations and more meetings will soon be set to finalize the Araw sportsfest calendar. (MDC)
