NEOPHYTE riders Jayson Caceres and Brylle Chavez Cocjin of Davao City are upbeat about their participation in the upcoming Batang Pinoy National Championship 2013 in Bacolod City.
They will compete in the 50-kilometer road and mountain bike events set on Jan. 30. From the New Government Center, the race will pass through Crossing Abuanan, Bago City and end in Barangay Mansilingan.
Coach Jojo Tan and PhilCycling Davao chief Salvador "Jun" Paholio, Jr. will accompany them to the nationals. The couple also funded the trip of the riders.
“Maningkamot gyud mi nga makadaug pero win or lose, dako ang among kalipay nga makalumba (We will try our best to win but regardless of the result, we are glad to be competing),"Caceres said in yesterday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall Bowling, Billiards and Bar (B3) Center.
Caceres and Cocjin are both third year high school students at Baliok High School and Ma-a National High School, respectively.
Caceres started cycling just a year ago, thus, he feels like a winner already having been given the chance to race in the Batang Pinoy finals.
He said, "Mas excited ko mulumba kaysa nakulbaan (I'm more excited to race than nervous)."
Cocjin, for his part, said he is not settling for anything else but the gold.
"Mulumba ko para sa gold (I'll race for the gold)," Cocjin said.
Cocjin topped the Lumba Bisikleta and Araw ng Kiagot in 2013 but placed third in the Padyakan sa Pasko held in Maa last month where Caceres was runner-up.
Both bikers have been training with their senior teammates in the Mayor Rody Duterte Cycling Team.
Cocjin said they often ride from Davao City to Panabo City as part of their preparations. (MDC)
