Corteza opens 2014 in DCC

WORLD No. 2 Lee Vann Corteza of Davao City will open 2014 with a stint in the Derby City Classic (DCC) 2014 slated January 24 to February 1 at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana, USA.

Manila-based Corteza, who hails from Mintal, will leave on January 22 to start his pool campaign this year.

Corteza, in a Facebook chat interview Tuesday, said," Sana maging successful pa rin ang 2014 ko."


He will join the one-pocket 9-ball and 10-ball events of the Derby City Classic where he hopes to improve his dismal performances last year. He was 19th in the 9-ball and 22nd in one-pocket division of the annual event.
The year 2013, meanwhile, proved to be a huge success for him having finished the year in the World No. 2 spot following his sterling championship victory in the China Open and runner-up finish in the US Open 9-Ball.

He also grabbed the second spot in 2013 earnings according to with a total of $111,525. He bagged the champion's purse of $40,000 in the China Open, $30,000 in World Cup of Pool, $15,000 in US Open 9-Ball and top prize of $10,000 in Southern Cl. 2013 9-Ball.

He finished third in the US Open 10-Ball to pocket $5,400, fifth in All Japan Men Championships to take home $2,250 and ninth place in World 9-Ball Championship in Doha, Qatar to settle for $4,000.

Corteza paired with Dennis Orcollo of Bislig, Surigao del Sur to capture the World Cup of Pool title in London. He also earned in other tournaments held in the United States.

Indeed, 2013 was the best year for Corteza compared to just winning a total of $16,050 in 2012, $63,193 in 2011, $66,842 in 2010, $56,700 in 2009, $11,042 in 2008 and $32,675 in 2007.
