Davao chessers join Koronadal open tilt-A A +A

TOP Davao City players began action as the 1st PBM Open Chess Tournament unwrapped at the Gaisano Grand Mall Koronadal, South Cotabato on Saturday.
National master (NM) Macacuna Macala and Reynaldo Quiñonez along with Panabo City's NM Cedric Magno were among the early favorites in the Swiss System format competition.
The chessfest features the open and kiddies below-14 categories.
Cash prizes await winners of the event. The open division champion will pocket P7,000 while the runner-up will settle for P5, 000 and the third-placer will get P3,000. The next two placers will go home with P2,000 and P1,000 while the sixth to tenth placers will receive P500 each.
The top junior, top female and top youngest players will each have P500.
In the kiddies category, the champion will win P2,000 while P1,500 will go to the second placer. Cash prizes of P1,000, P800 and P500 will be awarded to the third, fourth and fifth placers, respectively. The sixth to 10th chessers will take home P200 apiece.
The 1st PBM Open Chess Tournament is backed up by the city government of Koronadal in cooperation with the Koronadal Chess Club, Inc. headed by lawyer Elnathan Emilio.
